Young Arts

Supporting young artists helps contribute to the development of creative, cognitive, communication and social skills. Young Arts Volunteers aim to support children and  young people in the world of art, and promote their work.
Currently we have a good relationship with Sandwich Technology School, Sir Roger Manwood's School and the Phoenix Centre. This has included supporting their annual art exhibitions and awarding prizes to GCSE and A Level students and to members of the Phoenix Youth Project.
More can be done locally with more Young Arts please get involved.

For the fourth year we have been involved with Sandwich Arts Week. Prize winning students art work from Sir Roger Manwoods School and Sandwich Technology School was displayed at the exhibition at St. Peters Church. The Deputy Mayor of Sandwich, Councillor John Gisbey, presented the prizes and certificates at the Society's lecture evening in October.

The Headteacher, Libby Wood, approached us and asked if the Arts Society Sandwich could contribute funds towards the purchase of canvases and judge the school wide painting competition. This was the first time the competition had been held and may become an annual event. The pupils were asked to illustrate the animal of their year group - elephant, bear, dolphin, owl and penguin. Chair, Cally Vale and committee members Pam May and Carol Knight had the very difficult task of choosing the prize winners. Eight pupils were selected and each were awarded a prize and a certificate. The paintings will also be displayed at St. Peters during the Sandwich Arts Week.
