SUMMARY:James Vaux - Viking Gods and Valkyries - the art of Norse Mythology
DESCRIPTION:When we walk into any gallery\, why do we see so many depictions of the Greek and Roman gods and goddesses\, but not Viking ones? This lecture explores how Norse myths and legends have been portrayed in the decorative and fine arts over more than 1\,300 years and reveals quite how few depictions we have and how varied they can be.

DESCRIPTION:Cost: £7 for non members (Free to members of The Arts Society Sandwich and Sandwich Local History Society). Title: Turner and Constable – two intertwined lives. The Arts Society Sandwich in partnership with Sandwich Local History Society are delighted to offer this additional lecture on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of JMW Turner’s birth in 1775. Martin Heard\, an Independent Art Historian\, will discuss Turner’s works in comparison with his contemporary\, John Constable (born in 1776). What a wonderful prequel if you plan on visiting the Tate Britain exhibition later in the year.
