Tudor palaces were extravagant, symbolic, elegant and powerful, providing a useful propaganda tool for an upstart dynasty. They combined the tradition and continuity of the Gothic style with the up-to-date gloss of the Renaissance. This study day examines the architecture, interiors and furnishings of buildings such as Hampton Court, Whitehall, Richmond and Nonsuch, and reveals the exuberant surroundings of the Tudor court and the role played by the visual arts in creating the image of monarchy.
